Beer

Mick Huska

I love beer.  I love beer so much I wish I could be in a domestic partnership with it.  You see, beer tends to get a bad reputation as a “lower class” drink, whereas wine is the drink of the elite.  That stereotype makes me roll my eyes worse than a teenager not wanting to take out the garbage.  Beer is an art form and I am truly a patron of the art s.  There are so many styles, varieties and qualities of beer that it’s such a gut wrenching choice when shopping that sometimes I go home sans-beer.  What does that mean for my night when I can’t decide which beer will grace my refrigerator?  It means I’m racking up at tab at Ye Olde Forge!

Ye Olde Forge, located in Lanesborough, MA , is a beer lover’s dream come true.  Opening the doors of The Forge is like open the doors to heaven.  They have over 300 (yes, you heard me) types of beer on hand.  What’s on tap can change from month to month, week to week and even day to day.  Sure they have your standard Budweiser, Coors and whatever else is popular and overly advertised on TV.  However, their selection of bottled beers is just plain silly.  The servers bring a beer menu to your table along with a standard food menu.  If you can’t decide on what beer to drink, the servers will help you choose the right beer for you.

The food at The Forge is also great.  No night is complete without an order or two of their award winning wings.  I’ll also encourage you to try their nachos and burgers as well.  The prices are reasonable, but if you’re visiting with a group of people make sure everyone has a good amount of cash on hand.  It’s not hard to rack up a $200 tab at The Forge with a group of four or five people.  I’ve actually seen tabs way higher.

So when you’re staying with us, make sure to make a trip to The Forge even if you don’t love beer.  It’s a quick 15 minute ride up route 7.  In all the times I’ve recommended The Forge to guests, no one has returned disappointed.  The Forge is a hidden gem of The Berkshires.  If you’re a true beer connoisseur, your trip is not complete without visiting The Forge.
