Great Barrington Massachusetts was recently ranked the #1 small town in America by Smithsonian Magazine, and I recently took a afternoon ride down to the main street to grab some lunch at a place that some friends of mine just won’t stop talking about.

The Gypsy Joynt café, located right on the main strip in downtown Great Barrington is a family owned and operated restaurant  / café / music space, and it really is one of a kind here in the Berkshires.

They start serving coffee at 8am, and often stay open well into the night with all different styles of live music on a small stage in the center of the restaurant. My experience with the staff and food was excellent. From the homemade salad dressings (try the spicy vinaigrette!) to an amazing sandwich dubbed “The Al Capone” which is the Joynt’s take on an Italian, everything about the meal was delicious. With many natural ingredients and homemade breads, you won’t feel bad at all about stuffing yourself full.

If you’re in the Berkshires looking for an excellent meal while you explore South County, or need to recharge after a long hike up Monument Mountain, make sure that The Gypsy Joynt is on your list of destinations. My first trip was excellent, and it certainly won’t be my last. For the schedule of musical acts, menu, and to get a feel for The Gypsy Joynt, take a look at their web site: http://www.gypsyjoyntcafe.net/
