For those of you who love theatre productions, Barring Stage Company offers some of the best award winning plays and musicals. Just a short drive from the Yankee Inn in Pittsfield. Founded in 1995, Barrington Stage Company (BSC) is a non-profit professional theatre company in the Berkshires. BSC has a three-fold mission: “to produce top-notch compelling work; to develop new plays and musicals; and to find fresh, bold ways of bringing new audiences into the theatre, especially young people.” The company has brought in as many as 48,000 patrons each year and has gained national recognition for their work.

I went last summer to see the show “Guys and Dolls” and have never really gone to a real musical before, it was one of the funniest shows and truly done well. I was even more amazed at how nice the theatre really is; I had no idea that there was a place as such this right in my hometown.
This weekend of April 26th BSC is putting on one of the best classics, “West Side Story”. Tickets for the show are only $6 dollars and free for kids.
Starting in May 23rd-June 10th they are premiering “Lungs”, a “smart and stimulating” play about a couple contemplating if they should bring a new life into the world. “There’s nothing quite like considering whether or not to bring another human being into the world to make you acutely aware of how very messed up the world seems right now” – Duncan Macmillan, playwright. The play is nominated for a 2012 Helen Hayes award- The Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical. Tickets to see “Lungs” are $15-$39 dollars.
But that’s not all BSC has to offer, the summer season kicks off “Beauty and the Beast”, “Fiddler on the Roof’, “All My Sons”, “The North Pool”, and many more. So if you are interested in seeing a great performance be sure to get tickets and go see a show at Barrington Stage Company!
