Italian cuisine is always popular no matter where you go.  At the desk, I often get asked about the different Italian restaurants in the area and which one is the best.  Without fail I always recommend Frankie's Ristorante on Main Street in Lenox.

First, there’s something about the décor in Frankie’s that reminds of the scene in The Godfather where Al Pacino has dinner with the Turk and the police captain.  It really has that authentic Italian restaurant feel.  It’s tough to describe unless you see it.

However, the most important factor at any restaurant is the food.  Frankie’s certainly does not disappoint.  My personal favorite dish at Frankie’s is their Seafood fra Diavolo which is mussels, clams, shrimp and calamari all served over spaghetti with their fra diavolo sauce.  They also have excellent meatballs as well.  I generally only like home made meatballs from my grandmother or aunts, but Frankie’s does an excellent job.  Their meatballs are obviously hand-made which is how all meatballs should be.

Everyone should also start their meal with the zucchini fritti appetizer.  It’s zucchini and yellow squash cut shoestring style, fried and served with Frankie’s homemade marinara (which is also outstanding).  Add in the fact that the service at Frankie’s is top notch and you have the makings for a memorable dining experience.

So when you’re staying with us this summer and are looking for a great meal before your trip to Tanglewood, stop in to Frankie’s.  It’s a great place to eat before an evening of enjoyment in the Berkshires.
