The Best Restaurants in Lenox, MA: A Local's Guide
For a town its size, Lenox eats very well. As a family-run inn here, we get the same question from guests most evenings: where should we have dinner? Below are the best restaurants in Lenox we actually send people to, sorted by the kind of night you're having. Most of them sit in the walkable downtown cluster, much of it along Church Street, and all are a short drive from the inn.
Brava
Best for: sharing small plates over a good glass of wine.
Brava, at 65 Church Street, has been a downtown favorite since 2012. It's a tapas-style spot with handmade pizzas, cheese and charcuterie, and a wine list that has held a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for years. The room is lively but comfortable, which makes it work whether you're a couple or a small group who'd rather order a bunch of things and not watch the clock. It's open evenings Tuesday through Saturday, with indoor tables, a bar, and an outdoor patio. More at bravalenox.com.
Alta Restaurant & Wine Bar
Best for: a relaxed dinner that can rise to a special occasion.
A few doors down at 34 Church Street, Alta has been a Lenox fixture since 2008. The kitchen leans Mediterranean-inspired American, with local and organic ingredients and a deep wine list, including a couple dozen pours by the glass. It's the kind of place that suits an easy weeknight dinner and an anniversary equally well, and it's open year-round for lunch and dinner. We send a lot of guests here when they want food that's a notch more special without being fussy. More at altawinebar.com.
Frankie's Ristorante Italiano
Best for: hearty, homemade Italian-American with the family.
For Italian, we point people to Frankie's at 80 Main Street, family-run and serving Lenox since 2007. The cooking is honest Italian-American comfort food, much of it from the family's own recipes, with indoor and outdoor seating and a warm, unfussy feel. It's a good fit for families or anyone who's worked up an appetite hiking nearby October Mountain State Forest. Reservations are a smart idea, though they welcome walk-ins. Firefly Gastropub
Best for: comfort food and a livelier, later evening.
If you're after something more casual, or you're eating on the later side, Firefly at 71 Church Street is a relaxed gastropub built around high-quality comfort food, craft beer, and creative cocktails. It keeps a later kitchen than most spots in town and hosts live music through the colder months, so it's a good landing spot when you want the night to keep going. More at fireflylenox.com.
Where to eat near Tanglewood
Tanglewood is one of the main reasons people come to Lenox in summer, and all four of these spots are a short drive from the grounds. For an after-show bite, Brava's small plates and late-ish kitchen are hard to beat. For a proper sit-down dinner before a concert, Alta or Frankie's both work well. One tip from us: during Tanglewood season and on summer weekends, downtown fills up, so reserve ahead wherever you can.
Getting around
The good news is that you don't need to plan much. Brava, Alta, and Firefly are all on Church Street within an easy walk of one another, and Frankie's is a short stroll over on Main Street. From The Yankee Inn it's a quick drive into the village. If you're not sure which suits the evening, ask us at the front desk and we'll point you toward the right fit, then there's always a quiet drink waiting back at the Foxtrail Lounge when you return.
