Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort
Jiminy Peak is the largest ski and snowboard resort in southern New England, and it sits about a 30-minute drive from our front door in Lenox. In winter it's the region's go-to mountain for downhill skiing and riding; the rest of the year it turns into a four-season adventure park. If you're planning a Berkshires ski trip or a summer mountain day with the family, this is the anchor most guests build their day around.
Because it packs skiing, lodging, dining, and warm-weather thrills into one compact village, Jiminy is easy to visit for a few hours or a full day, and it pairs naturally with a stay in nearby Lenox.

About Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort
Jiminy Peak has been operating since 1948 and has grown into a full four-season resort in Hancock, MA, in the Taconic range on the western edge of the state. Its village center is designed so that lifts, rentals, lodging, and dining all sit close together, and its trail system funnels back to a single base area, which keeps a day here simple even when you have kids in tow.
It's also a quietly pioneering place. Jiminy was the first private business in the U.S. to install a megawatt-class wind turbine, which supplies a meaningful share of the resort's power, with the strongest winds arriving in winter when the mountain needs the most energy for lifts and snowmaking. That sustainability streak is something we share, since The Yankee Inn is solar-powered, and it's a nice thread to pull on if you care about where your travel dollars go.
Skiing and snowboarding at Jiminy Peak
In winter, Jiminy Peak offers 45 trails served by nine lifts, including a fast six-person chair, with terrain that runs from gentle beginner greens to steep black diamonds, plus terrain parks for those chasing tricks. Snowmaking covers the great majority of the mountain, so the season typically holds from November into April even when nature doesn't fully cooperate.
One of its signatures is night skiing: a large share of the trails are lit, so you can ski well into the evening, and the resort sells timed four- and eight-hour tickets that start when you arrive rather than forcing a full-day commitment. Lessons, rentals, and dedicated facilities for first-timers and children are all on site, which makes it a practical choice whether you're an expert or clicking into skis for the first time. There's also on-mountain lodging and several dining options clustered around the base village, so a warm-up break is never far away on the coldest days.
Summer at the Mountain Adventure Park
Jiminy Peak doesn't close up when the snow melts. Its Mountain Adventure Park is a warm-weather draw in its own right, home to the country's first Alpine Super Slide along with a mountain coaster, a giant swing, and the Aerial Adventure Park, a harnessed, self-guided ropes course strung high through the trees with ziplines and suspended bridges.
Add scenic chairlift rides to the summit for views across the Berkshires, lift-served downhill mountain biking, and hiking, and it becomes an easy day out in spring, summer, or fall. It's especially worth knowing about during Tanglewood season, when an active morning at the mountain pairs well with an evening concert.
Best time to visit
For skiing and riding, aim for December through March, when snow coverage is most dependable and night skiing is in full swing. For the Mountain Adventure Park, the sweet spot is late spring through the fall foliage weeks, when the chairlift views are at their best. Weekends and holiday weeks are the busiest, so if you can go midweek, you'll find shorter lift lines and easier parking.
One handy detail for a visit from Lenox: Jiminy sells flexible four- and eight-hour lift tickets that start when you arrive, so you can ski a half-day and still have time for the drive back and dinner in town rather than committing to a full dawn-to-dusk outing.
Where to stay near Jiminy Peak
Jiminy Peak has lodging on the mountain, but plenty of visitors prefer to base themselves in Lenox and drive the roughly 30 minutes over, so their trip isn't tied to the slopes alone. The Yankee Inn is a family-owned inn in the heart of the Berkshires with indoor and outdoor pools, complimentary breakfast to fuel an early start, and the Foxtrail Lounge for a drink after a day on the mountain. Fireplace rooms are a welcome thing to come back to on a cold ski afternoon, and staying in Lenox keeps you close to the area's restaurants, museums, and trails.
Pair it with
Since Jiminy sits in the northwestern Berkshires, it's easy to combine with other nearby stops. Hancock Shaker Village is close by for a dose of history and a working farm, the Lanesborough trailhead of the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail is a short drive for a flat, easy walk or ride, and Bousquet Mountain in Pittsfield is another option if you want a lower-key second ski day. In summer, that same cluster gives you real range: an active morning on the mountain, an afternoon at a museum or on the rail trail, and an easy evening back in Lenox.
